Program

One day a week, for a period of 5 weeks, participants will partake in a 1.5 hour long lesson led by a certified instructor. After each lesson, the participants get to enjoy 3 hours of free riding (snowboarding) with a mentor at our host mountain. All lessons and riding will be available at the current level of the rider.

As a part of SOS Outreach’s Recreation Outdoor Initiative (ROI), we have implemented their lesson plan into our curriculum. Each day of riding, we focus on a core value: Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom, and Compassion. Through the snowboarding lessons, we demonstrate how these core values apply on the mountain and in everyday life.

At the end of our program, we celebrate everyone’s success with a pizza party. Participants are awarded medals and certificates for successfully completing our program. The biggest reward is that everyone, both mentors and youth participants, feel a deeper sense of accomplishment.

Our Selection Process

The participant process is based on the following criteria: age, school status, ability to complete the program in its entirety, and commitment to become a positive role model in his/her community. No one will be denied access due to family size, income, race, creed, sex, and/or religious belief. Our participants’ ages range from 7 to 18.

Mentors are selected based on passing a stringent interview and background check. This is done to ensure the safety of everyone.
